SIHS signs an MoU With International Health & Safety Training Center

Symbiosis Institute of Health Sciences (SIHS) a Constituent of Symbiosis International University (SIU), Pune signed an MOU with International Health & Safety Training Center (IHSTC), Dubai Healthcare City, Dubai – U. A. E.

International Health and Safety Training Center is a Dubai based recognised Institution providing continuous medical education training, professional development classes, health training programs leading to academic certifications;


SIHS and IHSTC will jointly conduct courses / training programmes of International Trauma Life Support (ITLS), Medical Technology & other healthcare programmes in the UAE & Oman Region.

Maharashtra Healthcare Leadership Awards  & Summit 2014  was held on 11th July 2014 at Courtyard By Marriot , Pune.    Symbiosis Institute of Health Sciences  made  a remarkable presence during the event.







Dr. Rajiv Yeravdekar, Dean, Faculty of Health And Biomedical Sciences, Symbiosis Institute of Health Sciences addressed the gathering  during the Inaugural Ceremony. He spoke on transformation of Hospitals & Healthcare delivery.

The objective of the event was to create a create a vibrant platform for hospitals, government, corporate and academia to discuss on success stories, challenges and opportunities in Maharashtra. It also Provided opportunity of mutual learning among healthcare providers and industry by Showcase existing success stories and best practices in healthcare across the state.


The session   on Transformation of Hospitals & Healthcare ,Healthcare Infra structure for Operational efficiency, Success Stories in Technology in Healthcare & Healthcare Insurance was addressed by Dr. Sammita Jadhav, Deputy director- Academics, SIHS.

The  focus of the Seminar was  on  creating a vibrant platform for hospitals, Govt agencies of Public Health Department, Empanelled Corporate Hospitals & academia to discuss on success stories of Digitising healthcare activities in their areas of operation, thereby creating a win win situation for all the stake holders as well as patients.

GUEST LECTURE BY DR K.K.KALRA

We the students of SYMBIOSIS MBA-HHM 14-16 were privileged to be addressed about National Accreditation Boards of Hospitals by guest who is a CEO of the boards Dr K.K.Kalra. He had enlightened us with the quality of service to patient taking into account the Indian Healthcare scenario, He also envisaged us with various National and International forum which are working on patient safety goals. 

Dr Kalra not only briefed us with the quality standards required in NABH but he also simultaneously discussed about International Accreditations like JCI. He also brought into notice the forth coming challenges in hospital sector which was benefited to us as we being the future budding managers. He had also identified that 24% of medical errors is occurring due to poor communication. We were also introduced to the structure and functions of the accreditation.  He emphasized on the urgent need for quality in healthcare by ending with a note stating “TIME FOR CHANGE IS NOW”.The Lecture was concluded with healthy question answer session, and all the queries of my fellow mates were gracefully solved.

Capacity Building in Healthcare

On 18th June 2014 we had a guest lecture by Dr Ashok Dayalchand, Founder  &  Director , Institute of Health Management,  Pachod.
Dr Ashok cited health management models which includes essentially 5 resources namely:-
1. HR
2. MONEY
3. MATERIAL
4. INFORMATION
5. TIME

These 5 resources are the input which produce desirable outputs like objectives, change, increase in utilization of services and increase in quality of care.
He articulated the 8 game changers in the Health Management which are-
Monthly needs assessment and micro planning.
Build capacity of nurse and midwives.
Build capacity of primary level staff in Behaviour change Communication.
Make supervisory cadre functional and productive.
Build capacity of NHCs for CBM
Medical Officers
Capacity Building of block and district health managers.
Training of trainers
He  emphasized on the 3 main reasons that result in neonatal and maternal mortality-
(a) Delay in identifying symptom
(b) Delay in transportation
(c) Delay in services at the health centre

Dr Ashok also talked about the importance of capacity building. Capacity building not only includes training but also HR, ORGANIZATIONAL, INSTITUTIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND ALSO LEGAL FRAMEWORK.He also mentioned about the health workers in India called AASHA. Among every 1000 people thereis 1 community health worker. 900 thousand such workers are trained. 1 such midwife is present for the service of every 5000 population.
He also brought into notice serious issues like early child marriage, domestic violation, etc.35-60% female undergo domestic violationand more than 45% female marry before the age of 18.
Towards the end of the session Dr Ashok drew our attention towards the importance of COMMUNITY DIAGNOSIS and also Child Health and Nutrition. 80% of malnutrition is seen in children less than 3 years of age. Lastly he discussed Growth Faltering and how it can be beneficial to eradicate malnutrition. Growth Faltering is defined as current weight same as or less than previous month.
He ended the lecture by a very interactive question-answer session.

''An Eye Donation awareness program was conducted on 2nd july '14, an initiative of The Rotary Club Of Poona Downtown (RCPD). Mr. Hemant Shah, The President, addressed all the students with an impactful insight about eye donation.

The whole procedure and the technicalities involved in the eye donation were explained. Various myths surrounding eye donation were cleared.


Dr. Sangita Wagh, Ophthalmologist-Ruby Hall Hospital, attended to the queries of the students making everyone more thorough with the importance of eye donation.
Motivated by them, everyone in the auditorium, took a pledge to donate their eyes.''
